San Francisco’s very own and much-beloved Berlin and Beyond Film Festival kicks off tomorrow, with screenings at the Castro Theater and at Goethe-Institut. Each year, the festival offers a well-curated selection of narrative and documentary films as well as a shorts program, which screens tomorrow. While the festival showcases films in the German language, it covers a global scene, from 19th century Canada to modern-day Israel, to war-torn countries where mediators help to piece together fragile democracies. Tickets are available online, with many passes and discount options.
