The MVFF, in Marin County, California, has another glamorous line-up in its 35th year, with premieres that include Ben Affleck’s Argo, Walter Salles’ On The Road, Dustin Hoffman’s Quartet, Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Billy Bob Thornton’s Jayne Mansfield’s Car, and Ang Lee’s adaptation of Life of Pi, which will close out the Festival on the 14th. Oh, and yes: a Ken Burns masterclass.
The draw of big names at MVFF is not new; affluent Marin County has long been a retreat for the more private of Hollywood and music scene cognoscenti. But Director of Programming Zoë Elton and her team have included many independent films and filmmakers, with focus categories including “Latin America,” “The Environment,” and “Rock and Roll.”
The Mill Valley Film Festival runs through 14th October in various locations in Marin County, California.
