The Berlin and Beyond Film Festival kicks off next week in San Francisco, showcasing another year of terrific films produced in German-speaking countries. Opening the festival is a screening of Barbara, the much-acclaimed film by director Christian Petzold. Also notable in the line-up is the Director’s Cut of Gunter Grass’ The Tin Drum, Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years, the Bergman-esque Cracks in the Shell, the West Coast premiere of Lessons of a Dream with the wonderful Catalan-German actor Daniel Brühl, and the über-cool punk/skateboarding documentary This Ain’t California.
Advance ticket sales for both Castro Theatre and Goethe Institut venues are now available online. The BBFF runs from 27th September through 4th October. Black turtlenecks not required.
