Berlinale 62

The 62nd year of the Internationale Filmfestspiele in Berlin is off to a very exciting start, with 3 out of the first 5 films in Competition hailing from Asia, an honorary Golden Bear for the ubiquitous Meryl Streep, and new venues for the European Film Market (including one devoted to independent American filmmakers). “Straight from Sundance” is also expected to be a big EFM draw this year, with US films from January’s Sundance Film Festival being given an opportunity for screening and distribution. For fans of recherché 20th century studios, the Filmfestspiele is also honoring with a Retrospective the Russian-German production house Mezhrabpom-Film/Prometheus, a major European studio from the 1920s-30s.

The Berlinale is unique in its ability to integrate the closed world of the film distribution market with the open and enthusiastic festival market which caters to cinephiles – a must-attend for any of you who happen to be wintering up North soon.

The 62nd Berlin International Film Festival runs the 9th – 19th of February 2012. A full festival program will be available in the beginning of February.
