Festival de Cannes: Jodie Foster

I’ve always admired Ms. Foster’s work as an actress; much less so as a director. But I respect her nonetheless for her persistence, her strength, and the overall trajectory of her artistic pursuits. Her support of her longtime colleague and friend, Mel Gibson, however, rather upset me. And it’s not just personal, private support: she has forcefully aired her defense of him on TV, at the festival, and everywhere else. I respect her tremendously, which is why I was disappointed in her public support of someone who has proven to be extremely sexist, racist, violent, and fundamentalist. I don’t have the slightest interest in seeing her new directorial effort, The Beaver (the film doesn’t seem interesting); however, I think I would have boycotted the film anyway. Is this right?
